"God is relationship. There is something deeper in his essence as Father, Son, and Spirit than just doing the morally right thing all the time. They are completely, head over heels, in love with each other. And it is out of that relationship, from which everything flows, we find the reason for his creating of you and me. God loves in freedom because that is the way he is. There is no other way of being for him."

John MacMurray is the founder and director of the Northwest School of Theology and the Open Table Conferences. Formerly an adjunct professor in Bible Literature at Multnomah University in Portland, OR for over a decade, he continues to speak both in the States and internationally in a variety of venues, including Torchbearers International and Josiah Venture. John also co-authored two books with best selling writer Donald Miller entitled: To Own a Dragon (now released under the title Father Fiction) and The Open Table – An Invitation to Know God.

For 30 years John has made his living as a landscape nature photographer, in which he has amassed over 20,000 large format transparencies. Though the body of John’s photographic work is of North America, his travels include Europe, Scandinavia, Central and South America, and the Pacific Rim. His art has illustrated numerous books and appeared in several prestigious nature publications, including National Geographic, Sierra Club, and Audubon. His images and essays  have been collected in two beautiful coffee table books: By Chance? and The Call of Creation.

John and his wife Terri delight in 3 children; Chris, Elle, and Cassy. They make their home in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
